research on music video's

We were not sure whether our music video should be performance or narrative based. So we looked into hip-hop and RNB genres with narrative within their music video to help us decide.
Trey Songz - cant help but wait.

For our first scene we have a balcony scene, and i liked the camera angle of this shot. I thought it was very effective as it shows the character point of view and you can also see a part of the scenery. In our video we could use an over the shoulder shot. so u can see the female actor in the camera. To potray our chracters feeling and emotions by the use of faical gestures. Also we can use a point of view shot and an establishing point of the scenery.
Rihanna ft Eminem- Love the way you lie
I liked this video becasue they have a narrative within their music video aswell. Iliked the use of editing to show the transitions between different scenes when cutting back and fourth from the artist to the actors. We could use this as we are also having a narrative within our music video. During my music video researched i have found out that many RNB music video have a narrative within thier songs. This makes the lyrics in the song more clearer to the audicence and it allows the audience to realate better to the song.  I aslso liked the use of location in the video they relate the artist to the narrative being told in the story. They do this by the use of mise en scene and location as the house is burning within the narrative you have a straight-cut to the artist in front of a burning house. I thought this was effectvie because the fire represented the emotions within the song, and in the scene at the end rihanna in red hair emphasises the emotion of pain and anger, and it helps illstrate to the audience what the song is about. Looking at this video has allowed me to consider what props and lighting we should use within our music video. We could use back lighting to help seperate the subject from the background at our marble arch scene.
